I do think this is a good summary of teh differences I see between drivers in the USA compared to Australia.

US an orange/amber/yellow = see if you can go/make it

Aus an orange/amber/yellow = see if you can stop

Back in VA many years ago, there was a judge named, ironically or not, Judge Lawless (his daughter went to my high school). His favorite saying was, “There are only two colors of light: Green and Not Green. If it’s green, you go. If it’s not green, you stop.”

I generally try to stay on the safe side but I’d be a lier if I said I never accidentally ran a red thinking “I can catch that yellow”

Fun fact, yellow lights are entirely different colors on the east coast vs west coast of the US. The difference is subtle but its definitely there. Didnt realize this until I went back home to NJ for christmas one year and it really bothered me that Cali lights are not the same color.
